सोनियाचे ताट क्षीरीने भरले । भक्षावया दिले श्वानालागी ॥१ ॥

मुक्ताफळाहार खरासी घातला । क्स्तुरी सुकराला चोजविली ॥ २॥

वेदपरायण बधिरा सांगे ज्ञान । तयाची तें खूण काय जाणे ॥ ३ ॥

तुका म्हणें ज्याचें तोचि एक जाणे । भक्तीचें महिमान साधू जाणें ॥ ४ ॥

Verbatim meaning of the abhanga :

If we put a tasty rice porridge ( dish made with rice ,sugar and milk) in a Gold plate to a Dog, || 1 ||

If we give to donkey various fruits for eating or smear a pig with scent ( kasturi means musk)|| 2||

If a knowledgeable person in Vedas speaks of the knowledge in front of a deaf person ,

none of them understand the significance or usefulness of the things given to them.( They are incapable of even understand the significance of the tings offered to them )||3||

Tukaa says that only a saintly pious person can understand the significance and importance of devotion || 4 ||

Teaching of this abhanga :

Tukaram Maharaj has told here that even if one is convinced that man should worship the God with utmost devotion, he should not say it or tell this to those who are not interested .

The person who is saintly, obviously knows and understands the importance and significance of worshiping the God ; for such a person one need not tell the importance of worship.

In fact there is another famous abhanga . It describes the same point in a different light. It is said in this abhanga by Tukaram maharaj that he had done many good deeds in his past lives, and hence in this birth he has developed the love for God Panduranga.

अभंगाचा शब्दार्थ

जर स्वादिष्ट खीरीने सोन्याचे ताट कुत्र्यासमोर खायला ठेवले , किंवा जर गाढवाला उत्तमोतातम फळांचा आहार खायला ठेवला, अथवा डुक्कराला कस्तुरीने माखले ; तर हे सर्व व्यर्थ आहे. तसेच जर एखादी वेदपरायण व्यक्तीने बहिरे असलेल्या माणसापुढे ज्ञानपूर्ण प्रवचन केले तरी हया सर्व क्रिया म्हणजे पालथ्या घड्यावर पाणी ओतण्याप्रमाणे व्यर्थच होतात. ह्याच दृष्टांताप्रमाणे जो साधू सज्जन असतो तोच भक्तीचा महीमा समजू शकतो.

          अभंगाची शिकवण :

         तुकाराम महाराजांनी ह्या अभंगाद्वारे हेच सांगितले आहे की आपल्याला जरी मनापासून 
         पटले असेल की भगवंताची भक्ति करावी तरि ते इतर लोक ज्यांना त्यामधे रस नसेल
         अशांना सांगण्याच्या भानगडीत पडू नये. जो साधू सज्ज्जन असतो त्याला भगवद्‌भक्ती
         म्हणजे काय व भक्तिचा महीमा काय आहे हे सहज समजते त्याला वगळे सांगावेच लागत
         नाही..

        महाराजांनी एका अभंगामधे म्हटलेच आहे की " बहुत सुकृतांची जोडी म्हणून विठ्ठली
       आवडी " अर्थात जर अनेक जन्मांचे पुण्य पदरी असेल तरच विठ्ठलाविषयी (भगवंताविषयी )
       प्रेम भक्ती निर्माण होते.

       व्ववहारामधे हीच शिकवण जवळजवळ सगळीकडे लागू होते.
